Epsom College is a co-educational day and boarding school with approximately 1100 pupils aged 11-18.  The College is located approximately one mile from Epsom town, below Epsom Downs, in fine buildings set in a beautiful tree filled campus of some 80 acres.    

Role

To conduct examinations in accordance with the instructions from the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), other awarding bodies (when appropriate) and the School’s own instructions and safeguarding policies. To support upholding the integrity of the examination process.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Before exams

  • To report to and be briefed by the Director of Examinations and External Visits prior to each exam session;
  • To be aware of the Emergency Evacuation Procedures, fire exits and fire assembly points;
  • To be aware of policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the Director of Examinations and External Visits;
  • To ensure examination papers and materials are kept secure before, during and after exams;
  • To ensure examination rooms are set out according to the instructions;
  • To admit candidates into examination rooms;
  • To identify, seat, and instruct candidates in the conduct of their examinations;
  • To distribute the correct examination papers and materials to candidates;
  • To deal with candidate queries.

During exams

  • To supervise candidates at all times and be vigilant throughout examinations;
  • To keep disruption in examination rooms to a minimum;
  • To deal with emergencies or irregularities effectively;
  • To record and report any disruption or irregularities to the Director of Examinations and External Visits;
  • To complete attendance registers;
  • To deal with candidate queries;
  • To distribute additional paper and other stationery as required.

After exams

  • To collect examination scripts;
  • To dismiss candidates from the examination room;
  • To check candidates’ names on scripts match the details on the attendance register;
  • To securely return all examination scripts and examination materials to the Director of Examinations and External Visits;
  • To ensure that the room is left tidy after the examination.

To Note – In order to undertake the examination invigilation work, there is a requirement to attend a mandatory JCQ training and this is expected to take place during the Lent term (January tbc).

Terms – Casual Ad hoc Examination Invigilator

Hours: This is a casual ad hoc role and there are no set or guaranteed hours working.  Hours will be offered and the invigilator can accept or decline such hour of working.  Examinations that require invigilation take place at various times during the academic year, January and a significant period during the summer term (late April onwards).

Salary: Total rate will be £14.17 per hour inclusive of holiday pay payable on approved timesheet.

Holidays: Holiday entitlement is calculated based on the hours you have worked and have submitted for payment.  The calculation is 12.07% of the hourly rate for each hour worked and the amount of holiday pay paid to you for that month will be itemised on the payslip as “holiday pay”.  The rate above includes the calculation at 12.07% holiday pay.

Pension: Pension and life assurance: The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust.  Eligibility is based on statutory criteria.  If eligible, and whilst under casual assignment, the ad hoc/casual invigilator will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current legislation.

Other: Free refreshments are available when undertaking hours of work and when the dining room is open.

Offer of Post: Whilst this is a casual ad hoc role, in compliance with statutory safer recruitment regulations the appointment is subject to receipt of satisfactory written references, pre-placement medical assessment, proof of appropriate qualifications, a check of online search engines and websites of publicly available information that does not identify the candidate as potentially unsuitable to work within a school setting, a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and overseas police check if appropriate, as well as confirmation that the successful candidate is able to work in the UK.  Prior to interview, an online search of internet search engines, websites and other publicly available and accessible platforms to ascertain applicant’s suitability to work within a school environment will be undertaken on candidates that have been shortlisted.  Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant
