With Covid restrictions slowly beginning to lift and the RFU’s Return to Rugby roadmap allowing age-grade matches with no scrums or mauls from the 26 April, schools rugby in England is almost back.
We are celebrating by announcing that two of Epsom’s upcoming home fixtures will be broadcast live.
It has been a tough year for all our athletes, but with restrictions gradually lifting we wanted to mark the return of competitive fixtures and give parents and family members the chance to watch live sport. If we can’t do it from the touchline just yet, then a live broadcast is the next best thing.
“The boys have been working extremely hard and it is great to finally be able to play some competitive rugby,” said Director of Rugby, Paul Burke. “After a disrupted season, we are very much looking forward to getting back out onto the pitch and the boys representing the College once again.”
The games – against Whitgift and Hampton – will be broadcast by NextGenXV on Friday 30 April and Friday 14 May respectively. Both matches kick off at 6pm.
Speaking ahead of the broadcast, the team at NextGenXV said, “We want these livestreams to be special for the pupils, the school, and the parents. It has been over 400 days since the last live school rugby broadcast – a long and weary road. We want to make these games feel as special as possible, with the end of their school careers so close. With spectators unable to attend, we hope that this will allow the school community to feel connected to these special occasions.”
Each game will feature pitchside interviews, pre- and post-match analysis, and live commentary from the team at NextGenXV.
The matches will be shown on the NextGenXV website, their YouTube channel and their Facebook page.
