Two Lower Sixth students – Emily Vandrau (R) and Amy Hirtenstein (Rv) – represented Epsom in a competitive debate against Sutton Grammar School. This was the semi-final of a long-running, prestigious debating tournament run by the local United Nations Association.
The girls had the daunting task of opposing the motion ‘This house believes that water will be a determinant of future political power.’ Both spoke passionately and intelligently on this complex topic. They managed to convince the judges who praised them highly for their engaging, original and persuasive arguments.
We advance to the final of the tournament against Caterham School in mid-June and hope to return with the trophy.
