The return to College in September was not without its challenges; the Drama department had to approach both academic and co-curricular pursuits a little differently this term, but was determined that ‘the show must go on’…
The people’s favourite, Les Misérables was met with much excitement and enthusiasm by the senior pupils in the College and the auditions revealed some unknown talent too. Directed by Mr Lodge and with musical direction by Mr Johnson-Hyde it is a Music department affair this year. Three weeks into bubble rehearsals and the cast are already sounding and looking great!
This year’s senior play, a devised piece inspired by the events of 2020, was also welcomed by a pleasing and unusually large cast. Stories From an Unprecedented Time will combine live theatre and multi-media techniques and will be released on the media portal in December. The cast has already written, and started rehearsing, their contributions to the production. Miss Johnson is very proud of how the pupils have fully embraced the necessary new approach to producing live theatre.
The Lower School Drama Club and the Middle Fourth College Players are also rehearsing in earnest for their respective showcases in November.
In the words of the theatre company Punchdrunk, ‘restrictions breed creativity’ and the Drama department is certainly living by this mantra this year.
