This week the Science departments took the Third Form to Chessington World of Adventures, all in the name of science.
On their visit to Chessington World of Adventures, Third Form pupils experienced a number of rides that brought to life lessons learnt from a year’s worth of STEM activities. These have included the design and build of model rollercoasters.
In these lessons, pupils have explored the design of structures in Design and Technology, the mathematics and physics involved in energy transfers, the chemistry behind choosing the correct materials, plus computer programming, to develop complex control systems to run the rollercoaster.
In Biology, pupils have studied the adaptations of animals to the ecosystems in which they live. Pupils were able to tour the Zoo area, seeing a range of species from fossas to giraffes and lions on the Zoofari tour, as well as a spectacular Sea Lion show.
The weather held out, the pupils all had a great day and learned a lot from the trip. A number also won lots of cuddly teddy bears….
