Building work on Epsom College’s state of the art, £9.4 million centre of academic excellence will begin on 22 April. The Mermaid will provide much-needed space for our pupils’ academic and cultural enrichment. Occupying 2,000 sqm at the heart of the campus, The Mermaid will house seminar rooms, discussion pods, classrooms and a large study area. It will also feature a screening room and a state-of-the-art lecture theatre that accommodates 190 students. There will even be a cafe and gallery space.
The Mermaid is set to equip pupils with the essential skills to succeed in the 21st century, preparing them for University and the world beyond.
The celebrate the news, our current Lower School pupils – who are among the first who will benefit from this facility – built their own versions of the Mermaid as part of the ongoing series of ‘Lower School Challenges’ See below.
The Lower School challenges in recent weeks have seen pupils create their own versions of the Mona Lisa, develop Smoothie brands, create Film Trailers, write Five Star Book Reviews, embark on a bake-off challenge and sharpen their intellect by taking on the Head of Lower School’s fiendishly challenging brain teasers. In short, they have demonstrated exactly the intellectual depth and breadth that will be further stimulated by what will take place within The Mermaid.
