Netball – A really good week for the College netballers saw the U12As (17-15 vs St John’s) and U13As (32-16 vs Guildford High) progress to the next round of their National Cup competitions.
Also, the 1st VII and U16As built on their experience of tournament play last weekend in Brighton to qualify midweek for the Surrey Schools in March, losing only one game between them in the Surrey Schools Qualifiers.
Hockey – The U14As produced their best team performance of the season on Wednesday to cruise to an 8-0 win over Woldingham in the second round of the National Cup, with Rebecca Shackleton scoring a hat-trick. The team now faces Sevenoaks in the next round.
At the weekend the hockey sides flourished against tough opposition. The senior teams enjoyed eight wins and two draws out of 12 matches against Wellington College. In the Lower School the U13As defeated Wimbledon High 5-3, while the U12 matches saw goals galore, mostly for Epsom, across A-F teams, as all Year 7 girls represented the College. On Friday evening the 1st team and U16s face Kingston Grammar under lights, ahead of the weekend block fixtures.
Rugby – The 1st XV progressed to the fourth round of the National Cup with a tight 29-24 win over a competitive Hampton side. The team had come through a battle against Seaford at the weekend emerging winners 26-21 in what was a terrific block of fixtures across the board. All matches were competitive and Epsom emerged with six wins, two draws and just three defeats. Saturday’s fixtures are against RGS Guildford.
Football – The Boys’ 1st XI progressed through to the third round of the ISFA Cup on Tuesday with a tense win over Forest School. Goals from Year 11 players Lukas Leppard and Cameron Stones left the score 2-2 after extra time, sending the game to penalties. Goalkeeper Will Murphy was the hero, with great saves throughout the match, including two in the shootout, to send the team through.
The Boys’ U14As played a very competitive match against a strong Wilson’s team, and were just on the wrong side of a 2-3 loss.
Cross-Country – Two U15 teams took part in the English Schools Cup in Reigate – the boys’ team came second out of nine teams and qualified for the regional final in November, while the girls’ team finished fifth out of 13 schools.
Squash – A good week for the younger squash players saw a mixed U15 team defeat RGS Guildford on Monday before the boys’ U15 and U13 teams both defeated Brentwood School 5-0 later in the week.
Skiing – The girls’ ski team took part in the British Schoolgirls Championships on Sunday 6 October. Amber Griffin was 10th and Sophie Lovett 12th overall. Sabrina Smith was 41st but the top two counted so we were sixth overall as a team. Well done all!
