The College’s top golfers put on a strong showing at the ISGA National Finals at Slaley Hall this week. The Epsom team placed fifth overall with Kris Kim (Year 10, Fayrer), Oscar Lent (Year 11, Propert) and Holly Justice (Year 9, Rosebery) performing superbly against older players.
It has been an excellent start to the term for the College’s athletes. The Boys won the Goddard (track) and Gomme (field) trophies at the Epsom meeting. The Girls finished second out of 12 schools at the Hurstpierpoint meeting, where two College records were broken or equalled. Christiana Kamdom Kemegne (Upper Sixth, White) broke the College Shot Put record and Clemmie Curham (Year 10, White) equalled the Inter Girls High Jump record. The Lower School girls also enjoyed a competitive showing at the St Mary’s Ascot meeting.
There was an excellent first weekend of fixtures for our cricketers with some impressive wins against Brighton, Charterhouse, Tonbridge, St John’s and Dunottar.
The Boys 1st XI won well by seven wickets against an experienced Brighton side. The Girls 1st XI remain unbeaten with a clinical 10-wicket win over Charterhouse and the Girls teams won all their matches across the board.
Top performers across the weekend were Will Hamilton (Year 9, Propert) with 90 not out and 3 wickets for the U14A boys, Phoebe Howe (Year 10, White), 88 not out for the U15A girls, Dheer Ray (Year 7, Jeffery) with half centuries for both the U14C boys in the afternoon and the U12A boys in the morning, and Olympia Beumer (Year 8, Glyn Hughes) for an unbeaten half-century for the U13A girls.
Midweek the U15A girls beat City of London Freemen’s School in the Schools Sports Cup match while the U14As won their first round of the Surrey Cup against Tiffin with Keira Johnson (Year 9, Rosebery) scoring half centuries in both matches.
In Tennis, the Senior and Junior Boys performed admirably at the ISL competitions. The Seniors finished a close third in their group, while the U16, U15 and U14 teams finished a collective second ahead of Charterhouse and Tonbridge. Across the board there were good performances from boys and girls against KCS Wimbledon and Sutton Valence, the 1st team girls winning 9-0 and only two sides missing out on wins.
