On Thursday Lower Sixth artists transformed Big School into a creative hub, drawing from a life model under the tuition of acclaimed artist, Jeannette Barns, from the Royal Academy.
The students spent the day producing a range of different drawings, exploring the use of charcoal, experimenting with mark making and translating it to the human figure. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to kick off their A-level course, giving them a chance to draw in a different way, actively thinking about drawing.
By having the students form different poses themselves, Jeanette encouraged them to consider the model in terms of their own physicality, distribution of weight, and their relationship to their surroundings. Later on in the day, she tasked them with observing and drawing Rembrandt paintings, which inspired more considered drawings of light and dark.
