The College was delighted to host the Rotary Young Musician Competition in Big School on Wednesday evening, which was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Epsom and Ewell and members of the local rotary club.
The Rotary Young Musician competition, which is open to young people aged under 18, provides a stage for musical talent to shine. Starting with local level competitions, winners progress to district events. The competition is in two categories – Instrumental and Vocal.
The chair of adjudicators was keen to celebrate that the instrumental category was by far the highest standard in the seven years he has been adjudicating for this competition. He commented on the high levels of technical ability and expression.
The competition included young people from a range of local schools, including Epsom. Dev Sharma (Year 10) came second and Satomi Brocklebank (Year 8) came third in the instrumental category. Katie Evans (Upper Sixth) won the vocal category, Brandon McGuiness (Year 9) came second, and Daniel Lodge (Upper Sixth) placed third. The first and second placings of each category will go forward to the District Final in the Spring.
