Pupils Explore Careers in STEM and AI

Epsom hosted an event for Year 11 and Sixth Form pupils from across Surrey, to explore future careers at the cutting-edge of technology

Epsom’s pupils were joined by those from other local schools to spend a day exploring careers in industries and sectors that are only just emerging, or have yet to even develop.

The day kicked off with a presentation by Dr Michael Smith, chairman of the Sandy Gunn Aerospace Careers Programme. He highlighted the impact of the fourth industrial revolution on a diverse and wide range of careers, from blockchain to AI, and from robotics to cyber-security.

Dr Smith was followed by presentations by Babcock International Group, a leading engineering firm, and hands-on experience with VR headsets, flight simulators and a Boston Dynamics robot, all brought in to inspire interest in STEM futures.
