Martin Burke and his wife Jenny visited the College to speak to Lower Sixth students as part of their PSD Summer Term lecture series, focusing on living in the wider world and preparing for life beyond the College.
The duo explained that, at the age of 17, you can sign up to donate blood, stem cells or organs as part of the Hero Project run by Anthony Nolan in collaboration with the NHS Blood and Transplant unit.
Martin shared some statistics:
- every unit of blood donated can potentially improve the lives of three people
- three people on average every day need an organ transplant because there are not enough donors.
Helen Keevil said: “It was a moving, practical and uplifting talk, which left the students informed on the area of organ donation.”
