During Black History Week, the Charity Committee in conjunction with the Black History Week Committee chose The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust as their charitable cause for the week. Charity reps sold doughnuts and hosted other events within Houses to raise money.
Overall, we raised over £900 for this fantastic organisation, which works to create a fairer and more inclusive society in which everyone can succeed regardless of race, ethnicity or background.
Carr House, led by Charity Rep Tom Scott, staged a series of chess tournaments to raise money during this week. Charity Rep Isa Cheng, of Wilson House, ran a bakesale to raise money for this amazing cause. Overall, the entire College was involved in raising money for the charitable trust in one way or another.
The Charity Representatives, despite challenging Covid restrictions, have been exceptionally active and engaged this year. Several of the charity representatives, admirably, worked on charitable projects of their own during lockdown to help their communities. This committee is formed of a group of motivated Sixth Form students who volunteer within Houses and meet once weekly to plan and implement charities events.

Other Charity Initiatives
Before the half term, the committee chose and asked the College to vote on a new National Charity. The result of this vote was Refuge UK, which provides specialist support to women, children and some men escaping domestic violence and other forms of violence. We will be fundraising as a College for this charity throughout the Michaelmas Term, including Mufti Day on 20 November.
Charity reps also organised the Harvest Festival Food Bank drive in Houses, which was a truly fantastic and much-needed effort this year. Canon Haviland pronounced the College’s efforts as the ‘best yet’ and massively supportive of the great need in Epsom and Ewell at the current time.
As is traditional, the charity committee will be organising and planning House Bake Offs in November as well as facilitating the Growbaby Toy Drive in December. Look for announcements about these upcoming events.
The Charity Committee have done a truly exceptional job, with great enthusiasm, under restrictive circumstances this term.
