The first Duke of Edinburgh training day of the year was a great success, with 185 Silver and Gold participants venturing out in teams around the local countryside with an instructor to learn navigation skills. The weather forecast was poor but, in the end, proved far better than expected.
Groups practised pacing, timing, map skills and compass bearings in preparation for their expeditions later this year.
Pupils made use of the extensive College grounds as well as the nearby Epsom Common and Epsom Downs for this training, rather than heading further afield, in a bid to reduce the carbon footprint of our DofE activities. It also allowed them to explore their local area, which many participants had not previously had the opportunity to do.
