The students are all undertaking a BTEC Level 2 qualification in Teamwork and Personal Development in the Community as part of their CCF commitment, and these off-site days provided the key practical component for one of their units, as well as an excellent opportunity for personal challenge, team-building, and further development of their leadership skills.
Hosted by Rock the Boat Activities at Blue Spider in Guildford, the climbing groups explored bouldering, as well as auto-belayed and belayed climbs, developing their understanding of safe practice, and supporting each other through the varying difficulties of climbs at the centre.
“We had such an enjoyable two days, bringing out the best in each other as we learnt new skills and worked closely as a team.”
At Aqua Sports in Redhill, the groups turned their hands to dinghy sailing and paddle-boarding, as well as the challenge of building, and then racing, their own rafts. Competition was fierce for the latter activity, and both groups were complimented at both sites for their positivity and enthusiasm, with tenacity and determination well in evidence.
Thanks go to all the staff involved in helping make these days such a success, and a hearty congratulations to the Lower Sixth groups for what they achieved across the course of the week.
