Thursday 31 January saw the Lower School preliminary round of the Rotary French speaking competition. The School can only enter two candidates from the Lower School year groups and because four pupils had put their names forward, Mrs Winmill, Acting Head of French, decided to have a preliminary round to determine which candidates should be put through to the final, planned at Blenheim High School on Monday 11 February.
Mr Christopher Goldsack, singing teacher at Epsom College who is bilingual in French, was the adjudicator. He gave insightful advice to all candidate on their pronunciation, diction, flow and acting skills as their task was to read a French poem.
The two successful candidates to go through to the 11 February competition are Amy Henwood (Hu) and Hannahli Foley-Outeiral (Hu). The scores were close as all the pupils had very obviously practised their poems diligently. The good news is they can still enter again next academic year.
