On Wednesday, the Lower School Chapel Choir travelled to Guildford Cathedral to lead their service of Choral Evensong. For all 30 pupils in the choir, this was the first full evensong that they had ever sung, and the choir performed extremely well.
Singing the equivalent of five separate pieces in one service is no mean feat, but the Third and Lower Fourth Form pupils sang with great skill and passion throughout the service. They particularly enjoyed singing in such a large building, and with such a big acoustic and organ behind them – the seven-second echo took a little bit of getting used to!
The cathedral staff were all immensely grateful, and really impressed with the maturity of the singing from such young musicians. They have already asked when we are able to return to lead another service. Many congratulations to all involved.
