Thursday, 12th May saw the visit of Baroness Sugg for this term’s Lord Rosebery Lecture. An OE herself (Wh 1993-95), it was a particular pleasure for Baroness Sugg to return to the College and enjoy a trip down memory lane. The Baroness regaled her captivated audience with inspirational stories of her career path into politics; anecdotes of her exciting range of experiences working with David Cameron at Number 10, during his premiership; first-hand experiences of meeting world leaders from Obama to Putin; and an informative and engaging exploration of the role of the House of Lords.
The Q&A session following the lecture allowed a large number of students to pose insightful questions to hear more about their various areas of interest. Students were also able to gain a better understanding of politics, law-making and current events, and explore how and why a career in politics could be pursued. The evening was both inspiring and educational – a real highlight of the term so far.
Members of the Sixth Form Politics society, led by Eva Saunders and Maddie Fairbank, were fortunate enough to attend a private dinner with the Baroness prior to the lecture. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Society to hear more about the world of politics, and explore their personal questions about her distinguished career.
