Future Scholars on Display at Epsom’s Annual Prep School Public Speaking Competition

Epsom was delighted to host local prep schools keen to demonstrate their public speaking talents in a celebration of wit, humour, and free-thinking

In front of a packed audience of teachers, parents, Epsom College staff, and fellow Prep School pupils, teams of three had five minutes to speak on a subject of their choice.

Each team was made up of three speakers: the Chair, who introduced the topic; the Main Speaker, who delved deeper into the subject; and the Vote of Thanks, who wrapped up the presentation.

Schools taking part in the event included:

  • Donhead
  • Greenfield School
  • Falcons School
  • Kew Green Prep
  • Homefield Prep
  • Surbiton Boys’ Prep
  • Ewell Castle
  • Banstead Prep
  • Twickenham Prep
  • Eaton House The Manor
  • Oakhyrst Grange
  • Weston Green

Each school submitted strong teams who presented a variety of intriguing topics.

The range of subjects covered included Money Can’t Buy Happiness. Or Can It?, How to Talk Like a Pirate in Three Easy Steps, and Is Being Prime Minister the Best Job in the World?

The winning presentation, delivered by Banstead Prep, explored How Does Reading Change the World?. Congratulations to the trio for both enlightening and entertaining the audience with their thought-provoking presentation.

We would also like to extend our thanks to the event judges, Mr Nick Russell, Assistant Head of the Senior School, and Mrs Briony Lee, Teacher of English, for their valuable contributions.
