Epsom’s footballers enjoyed a sparkling start to the season. The 1st team lost a close match 2-1 against a strong Old Epsomians team. Callum Holland (Rn) scored a good goal and was the standout player as the team tried to recover from a two-goal deficit but just ran out of time as their older opponents tired.
However, the rest of the results at senior school level were excellent. There were 10 wins out of 16 matches and 10 players scored hat-tricks. The 2nds, 3rds and 4ths all won their matches against Eastbourne, playing a team above their own. Dan Gotsman (P) scored a hat-trick for the 2nd XI in their 3-2 win against Eastbourne 1st XI. Tom Harley (G) also scored three goals for the 4th team in their 6-1 victory.
The U15 and U14 teams all won their matches against Brighton College, scoring 51 goals between them in just seven matches.
The U15Bs scored nine goals, with hat-tricks for Ollie Laidlaw (Fa), Joel O’Donnell (P) and Max Franks (H).
The Cs went one better, scoring 10 – with three goals for Leo Hagdrup (G) and Ollie King (Rn).
The Ds also won well 7-2, Leo Kounoupias (C) and Seb Ward (P) scoring twice.
In the U14s, the B team recovered from a slow start to win 4-1. Harry Addington (P) saved a penalty before Sam Waugh (F), with a man of the match performance, led the team to a convincing victory.
The C team won 7-0 thanks to Josh Coffey’s (Fa) four goals, while Will Hewett (H) and Lucas Schmid (Fa) scored hat-tricks for the D team in their 11-1 win. The E team also enjoyed a victory 3-0 with Julian Pearl (C) scoring two goals.
In the Lower School, Dunottar proved tough opposition as the U13A team drew 1-1 with their U14As. The B team battled hard but went down in the second half to Dunottar’s A team.
In the U12s, injuries to two key players cost the A team the chance of victory but the B team did well to draw 2-2.
