Monday 11 February saw the final of the Junior and Intermediate Epsom Rotary French Speaking Competition. The Junior pupils; Elizabeth Lowndes (M), Dara Sherafat (Fa), Amy Henwood (Hu), Hannahli Foley-Outeiral (Hu), read with clarity, tone and perception a poem each, chosen from a variety of poems written by eminent French poets such as Maupassant, Prévert and Gautier. Their confidence was praised by the judges even though they did not place first or second but all got Highly Commended certificates.
The Intermediates pupils Ellie Jordan (M), Juliette Walsh (R) and Theo Mully (P), wrote and delivered excellent presentations and spontaneous general conversations on, respectively: future aspirations, the importance of bilingualism, and passion for cinema.
Their aplomb, accent and spontaneity impressed the judges, the other parents in attendance and the organisers who, every year, are delighted that pupils put themselves forward for what can be seen as a very daunting exercise. They too all got Highly Commended certificates, and all made Epsom College very proud.
