Exploring European Universities

Mark Huntingdon from A Star Future, and Camilla Sturaro of Bocconi University, Italy, spoke to students about studying in Europe

Students who are considering pursuing their university careers in Europe, were given lots to think about in these invaluable presentations. Mark Huntingdon and Camilla Sturaro explained that students choose to study in mainland Europe for many reasons, including wanting an international experience and a desire to try something new. Mark explained that those who journey abroad also develop what Google calls cultural intelligence. Mark explains that cultural intelligence is defined by Google as “learning from people not like you”.

Mark went on to share that world rankings do not necessarily reflect student satisfaction or teaching quality but rather the reputation and research output of universities. Students should therefore look at a range of factors when choosing their university. Once they have selected a university, Mark encouraged Epsom students to try an online taster session at the university of choice, to see if they liked the teaching style. He also reminded students that students in international schools often apply to universities on many continents, so he encouraged Epsom students to be brave and broaden their outlook.

Camilla talked about Bocconi University, located in Milan. She shared how the university has a laser focus on employability with critical thinking, foreign language learning and internships all part of the package. With strong links to multinational companies located in Milan, it means the university can offer a wide range of placements.  The courses Bocconi offer are in Business, Finance, Economics and Political Science. With these courses filling up fast from the autumn term – students are encouraged to apply early.
