Epsom’s Year 7-8 Pupils Enjoy The Benefits of an All-Round Education

This year's relaunched co-curricular programme opens up a world of new possibilities and experiences for our youngest pupils

Epsom’s co-curricular programme has long brought a breadth of opportunities to our pupils – winning multiple national awards along the way. Pupils have been able to choose from over 150 co-curricular clubs, activities and societies each week, turning their hand to new experiences, or deepening their knowledge and practice in more familiar pursuits.

This year, to further increase the options available to our youngest pupils, Epsom has redesigned and relaunched the Lower School programme, and called it the ‘Life of Mind and Body’.

The aim is to introduce pupils to activities they may not have tried before and encourage them to broaden their horizons. During Years 7 and 8, pupils will experience ten different activities – five that will sharpen the mind, and five that will nourish the body:

Life of the Mind

  • Creative Writing
  • STEM Rockets
  • Current Affairs
  • IT Tech
  • Art
  • Crack The Code Escape Room
  • Tabletop Role-playing Games

Life of the Body

  • Squash
  • Badminton
  • Girls’ Football
  • Girls’ Rugby
  • Girls’ Cricket
  • Boys’ Hockey
  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Triathlon

Year 7 pupils will also take part in a Performing Arts carousel, including sessions in puppetry, physical theatre, drama, dance and the year group choir.

Year 8 pupils meanwhile give their time to various projects in the local the community, as part of the College’s successful service programme. Activities include helping in care homes, community gardens, local primary schools as well as making care packages for hospitals, hospices and care homes.

Finally, in the summer term, pupils will be introduced to various team-building and life skills that will prepare them well for future Duke of Edinburgh or CCF activities. These sessions will teach the children map and compass reading skills, route planning and orienteering.
