Following a period of confusion and uncertainty for pupils, parents and the wider education sector, today witnessed the release of Centre Assessed GCSE Results. Epsom College is delighted that the hard work of our pupils over the past two years has culminated in 59% of GCSEs being graded 9-8 (A*), and 83% are in the 9-7 range (A*-A).
Headmaster, Mr Jay Piggot, commented: “Today’s GCSE results are truly commendable. This year’s cohort deserves praise for two years of rigorous preparation, application and endeavour and, most notably, for their resilience in such challenging times. These excellent results provide an assured foundation for pupils to embark upon the exciting challenge of A-level study and future university application.”
Deputy Head (Academic), Richard Alton, commented: “We can be confident that the Centre Assessed Grades fairly reflect the progress pupils made throughout the GCSE course. Using academic data effectively is a key strategic intent at Epsom and, accordingly, we have a robust academic tracking system in operation, which requires all teachers to enter assessment data every half-term. This data provides an evidence based indication of a pupil’s examination grade, which is regularly compared to projected target grades generated from baseline data. This is the methodology we have used at Epsom for the past six years, and which – under more normal circumstances – gives us confidence that our internal assessments closely align with moderated results.”
