The pupils, who spanned from Year 9 to Upper Sixth, split into three delegations of Russia, India and Canada. They listened to an inspirational speech by Shami Chakrabarti CBE, politician, barrister and human rights activist, in which she talked about her growing concern for climate refugees, as well as what the UN has done to improve human rights.
Following this, the delegates split into committees including the World Health Organisations, Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (SPECPOL), Security Council and Human Rights, where they took part in much fruitful debate.
The day rounded off with the General Assembly, which was in relation to the Russia-Ukraine war. The delegation for Russia, which was formed of John Gartside (Year 10, Propert), Dejan Filipas (Year 10, Forest), James Mathews (Year 11, Robinson), Selim Ardac (Lower Sixth, Granville) and Christie Lau (Upper Sixth, Wilson) spoke frequently throughout the debate, as well as passing several amendments. Special mention must be made to Dejan and James, whose Highly Commended delegate awards put their team in the running for the best delegation.
