Four of Epsom’s cricket teams – two boys, and two girls – earned national titles over the summer. This outstanding run puts the College in strong contention to become the UK’s top cricketing school.
The run of titles began in July, with the Girls U17 becoming National T20 Champions when they defeated Bede’s and Stamford. Our U18s fell just short a few days later – having beaten a strong Repton side in the semi-final, a final defeat against Ipswich School ended with a National Cup Runners Up title of which they should be very proud.
Hot on their heels, the Boys’ senior team won the SPREB Festival in July with victories over St Peter’s York, Repton and Bradfield – hundreds coming from Alex Chambers and Ralphie Albert. The Girls senior team also beat Willo and Bradfield to win their festival.
Also in action at the beginning of the holidays, the U13 Boys beat KCS Wimbledon to win the Surrey Cup and then defeated King Edward’s Birmingham to win the National Cup a few days later. This was the final match of a hugely impressive two-year unbeaten run.
Bookending the summer in fine style, more national titles followed.
The U15 Girls returned at the start of September to beat Clifton College and Repton (again) to win the National T20 Championship. The girls enjoyed comprehensive victories in both games. This team completes the cricket season with the delayed Surrey Cup final against Alleyn’s next Friday.
The U17 Boys are also National Champions, having beaten Solihull School in the final yesterday in Loughborough, with Nathan Farmer scoring an unbeaten century.
This truly astonishing success, alongside continuing to put out 27 boys and girls sides from U12 to U18, shows how far the College cricket programme has come under Director of Cricket Damian Shirazi and his talented and committed team of coaches, making Epsom the best cricketing school in the country.
