The food was amazing, the board games were out, and a mix of year groups from all Houses threw themselves into ‘musical chairs.’ Meanwhile, the calligraphy sets – predictably – ended up covered in ink once again. But the real highlight of the evening? The lanterns.
Releasing the lanterns
Pupils carefully inscribed their wishes onto the lanterns in calligraphy before gathering on Wilson Pitch to watch them take flight. Their hopes ranged from strong GCSE results to peace in Ukraine. Releasing the lanterns was a bit of a daring move and, given environmental concerns, it may remain a one-off. But with calm winds and a clear, beautiful evening, the conditions were perfect as the students watched their wishes ascend into the sky (and so far, no calls from Gatwick Airport!).
A huge thank you to Ella Frankland, whose impeccable organisation made the event such a success, and to the dedicated staff who came to support. The Catering Team outdid themselves yet again, with stunning decorations and thoughtful touches that delighted the pupils.
Wonderful Teamwork
But the biggest round of applause goes to the pupils and the Full Boarders’ Committee, who embraced the celebration with enthusiasm, impeccable behaviour, and a willingness to help. From unpacking food to tidying tables and clearing rubbish, they kept the evening running smoothly.
