Playing at Meadowbank, the home of Dorking Wanderers FC, the U14s started brightly and were driven forward by captain Mikel Obeng-John. A fine strike from Jack Catterall gave Epsom a deserved lead, which they took into half-time.
Cooly marshalled by centre-back Harry Raincock, the defence had been solid and Billy Cotton performed excellently against Whitgift’s main threat out wide. As the match opened up in the second half, Epsom couldn’t quite take their opportunities to make the game safe, leaving some nervy set pieces to defend towards the end.
With the whole squad sticking to their tasks, Epsom held out for a much-deserved win. This is the first year Epsom has played in the cup, so to emerge victorious is no mean feat, and reflects this team’s winning combination of raw talent and hard work.
Congratulations to all; a fantastic result.
