During the Easter break 87 pupils took part in the DofE Silver and Gold practice expedition to the Peak District. The group began by learning camp craft skills before embarking on three days of hiking up to 8 or 9 hours a day, developing their teamwork, navigation and leadership abilities.
The weather was cold, particularly overnight, but adverse conditions were thankfully kept to a minimum and the groups were able to focus on the challenges set by the award.
A number of instructors came forward at the end to praise the efforts of the pupils, indicating that their groups were a pleasure to teach and that they were fully prepared for their assessed expeditions taking place in June.
Dan Reeve would like to thank Jaqueline Austin, Chris Bates, Karin Lines-Scrase and Matt Perrins, who were instrumental to ensuring the success of the expedition.
