The Symphony Orchestra opened the evening with a thrilling performance of the fourth movement of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 From the New World under the direction of Mr Freddy Wickham (Assistant Director of Music). The Concert Band, conducted by Mr Paul Johnson-Hyde (Director of Music), followed with a performance of a varied repertoire that included works by Percy Grainger, Shostakovich and Sweeney.
The Chamber Choir delivered a mature rendition of the Introitus and Kyrie from Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, while the ‘Get Downs’ Funk Band entertained with their lively performances of Lady Day and Superstition.
The Senior Girls Acapella group impressed with their beautiful harmonies in a rendition of Rihanna’s We Found Love, as did the Barbershop group with rousing performances of Uptown Girl and September. The enjoyable evening concluded with an impressive rendition of Glenn Miller’s In the Mood by the Big Band.
The Ensembles Concert was a magnificent showcase of the breadth and depth of musical talent at the College, providing the audience with a diverse range of music genres and styles. The evening was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and their teachers.
