Anti-Bullying Week Highlights Kindness, Integrity, and Community

The national theme for Anti-Bullying Week was “Choose Respect,” encouraging young people to choose kindness and respect while reminding adults to lead by example - both online and offline.

At Epsom, we supported Anti-Bullying Week with Respect Week, championing everyone in the School community. Pupils celebrated diverse strengths and talents, promoted the College’s core values of kindness and integrity, and encouraged everyone to speak out against unkind behaviour.

Highlights included:

  • Respect boards in houses, celebrating individuals daily. Mr Filbey and Mrs Lenham visited all the houses, seeing all the wonderful Respect boards, discussing the key messages of the week.
  • ‘Culture Wars’ discussions with prefects, peer mentors, and tutors on creating a culture of kindness.
  • Religious Studies Debate Week, focusing on respectful disagreement.
  • Player of the Match awards for exceptional sportsmanship. Throughout this week and in tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) sports fixtures, Player of the Match awards have been given to players who show exceptional sportsmanship and add significant value to the team, showing kindness, support, and empathy to teammates.
  • House kindness initiative led by Lower Sixth Peer Mentors who have taken strings of bunting to houses – filled with messages of kindness and respect.
  • All Lower School and Year 9 pupils wrote a thank you card. A great deal of care was taken with these and these have brought joy to a wide range of members of the School community, from minibus drivers, to catering, sports coaches and teachers.
  • Positive masculinity workshops for Lower Sixth boys.
  • Library displays on positive role models and suggested readings.
  • Odd Socks Day
