Three of Epsom’s Hockey teams have reached the National Finals next week after the 1st team defeated Millfield on penalty shuffles on Tuesday after a thrilling and high-quality 1-1 draw. Having three teams reach the finals in the same year is unprecedented, and puts Epsom Hockey in the top four in the country at U18 and U16 level, and the top two at U14.
Brett Garrard, Director of Hockey, said: “The College is incredibly proud of the U14, U16 and 1st XI girls hockey teams for making the National Finals and we are all very excited for the challenges that face the teams at the Olympic Hockey Centre next week. Their development and dedication have enabled this unprecedented opportunity and I hope they will all enjoy the experience of competing in the finals.”
The National Finals are played across two days – 6 and 7 March – at Lee Valley Olympic Park.
- On 6 March, the U18s face Repton in the Semi-Final, with the Final and 3rd & 4th place playoff the following day.
- The U16s’ Semi-Final is against Oakham on 6 March, with the Final and 3rd & 4th playoff on 7 March.
- The U14s have already reached their Final, facing Repton, on 7 March.
Brett added, “I am also very grateful and thankful to the staff, coaches and parents for their time and commitment to their teams during the hockey season. In my short time at the College I have been amazed by the support given to girls’ hockey, girls’ sport and the wider sporting programme.”
