Joining Year 7 (11+) | Epsom College

Our admissions process is designed to be as stress-free as possible (for child and family alike) and to help us identify the potential in every applicant.

We are looking for children whose talents and interests stretch beyond the curriculum and who will contribute to the life of the College and our community. Our admissions process is in three stages:

  1. Application – where you tell us a little about your child’s interests and achievements
  2. Assessment – all children sit the ISEB Common Pre-Test
  3. Engagement – based on the strength of their results, school reference, and information supplied in the application form, about 500 children are invited to Epsom for half a day, to learn more about us and have their chance to shine.

The timeline for the whole process is outlined below.

Years 4 & 5 Open Mornings

Open Mornings are the best way to see Epsom. You will be shown around the College by your own personal pupil guide, taken into departments, Houses, the Lower School and any other areas you wish to see.

Senior staff and Admissions colleagues will be available throughout the morning to talk in more detail about the College and answer any questions you have.

Years 5-6 College Tours

Our College tours are much smaller in scale than an Open Morning, and allow you to see the College on a normal working day.

Your morning begins with a welcome from our Head, Mark Lascelles. You will then be taken on a tour of the College by two pupils relevant to the school year you’re considering.

You will be taken around the College grounds and departments – but please bear in mind that this is a normal working day at the College. If you would like to see departmental showcases, you may wish to consider attending one of our termly Open Mornings.

Your tour should take around an hour. Afterwards, refreshments will be available and you can chat with senior staff and our Admissions Team.

31 October, Year 6 Application

Applications for Year 7 entry in 2025 have now closed. Registration will open in Easter 2025 for those looking to join Year 7 in September 2026.

Submitting your registration form is the start of our admissions process.

While the ISEB assessments help us to understand your child’s academic potential, we’re looking for more than this. We believe in a well-rounded education.

In your application form, we would like you to tell us your child’s passions, interests and achievements. Let us know how your son or daughter will add to the life and culture of Epsom College.

Autumn, Year 6 ISEB Assessments

The second part of our admissions process is the ISEB Common Pre-Test. This is designed to identify your child’s academic attainment and potential. There are four tests:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning

The tests are online, multiple choice, and ‘adaptive’ – which means the level of difficulty is adapted to your child’s age.

The tests are usually sat at your child’s school. Overseas candidates can take the test at their own school, the British Council or other approved, testing centre.

We will send more information once we receive your application form, but you can click below for more information from the ISEB.

Your child must take the test no later than 1 December 2024.

14, 15, 16, 17 January, Year 6 Engagement Day

The Engagement Day makes up the third and final part of our admissions process.

Based on their performance in the ISEB assessments, school reference, and information supplied in the application form, 500 children are selected to attend a half-day session at the College. This is where your child discovers what Epsom is all about, and we spend time getting to know each child.

Your child will meet our teachers, fellow candidates and (hopefully) future classmates. There are no more exams or tests, just the opportunity for your child to show us what they are really like, and for us to learn more about them than would be possible in a 15-minute interview.

Our Engagement Days will take place on 14, 15, 16 or 17 January, 2025.

Please note that your child could be invited to any one of six sessions taking place across these days. Due to the number of children we see, we are unable to accommodate changes so it is important that you keep all these dates free until your child’s session is confirmed (mid-December).

We will confirm the arrangements for children who are living overseas directly with the family.

January, Year 6 Scholarships

Academic scholarships are awarded on the strength of your child’s overall application. No additional exams are required.

A separate assessment is required if you wish your child to be considered for a scholarship in Drama, Music or Sport. These take place in January, with exact dates and timings to be confirmed nearer the date.

You must apply for scholarships when you complete the online registration form – available via this page from 1 May, 2024

February, Year 6 Places Offered

Offers are made in mid-February and parents have until early March to let us know their decision.

We consider everything when making our offers, and place great value in getting to know the whole child throughout the admissions process.

We are looking for children who exhibit real engagement, determination and a sense of joy in learning. This is a vital part of the process, as it is important that each child has the chance to thrive as part of a happy, well-balanced community

February, Year 6 Offer-Holder Event

We host an event for all our Offer Holders after the February half-term. Parents get the chance to hear from members of our Senior Leadership Team and to take part in a Q&A session.

Your child has the chance to meet other offer-holders and take part in some fun team-building activities.

Everyone is then reunited for food and refreshments.

For 2025 entry, the date for this event is Thursday 27 February 2025.

March, Year 6 Acceptance Deadline

To accept your child’s place at Epsom, we require a confirmation deposit of £4,000. £2,000 of the deposit will be offset against the first term’s fees. The balance of £2,000 will be held in the general funds of the College in accordance with our Terms & Conditions, and will be offset against a pupil’s final account when they leave the College.
