The OE Medical Society returned to the College for this year’s annual black tie dinner in March. Over 60 OE and parent medics, vets and dentists were joined by 15 sixth form students and members of staff.
Earlier in the evening, a number of guests enjoyed a tour of the College, ably led by members of the sixth form. Drinks and dinner followed with the spotlight on Mike Hobbs, who has taught biology at the College since 1981 and has also been the Medical Careers Advisor for the last 17 years. Mike, who retires at the end of the summer term, has attended all but one of the Society’s dinners, which are usually held in London. Phil Mitchell (G 1982-84), the Society’s President, thanked Mike for all he has done for aspiring medics over the years and presented him with a plaque, aptly mounted with an artificial hip joint (Mike has had three hip replacements).
Headmaster, Jay Piggot, reported on the good health of the school and guests enjoyed a four-course dinner laid on by the College’s superb catering team. The sixth form students took advantage of the networking opportunity on the evening and several offers of work experience were gratefully received.
