Impressive Victory in Hobbs Trophy

This week saw the second edition of the Hobbs U14 Trophy. Played in glorious sunshine, the event saw schools from Surrey, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire compete in an eight team T20 tournament here at the College.

With the Trophy’s founder in thoughts, the games were played in a competitive and good-natured spirit with lots of new friends and sporting relationships made. Epsom’s players produced a near-faultless group stage producing strong wins over Reeds, RGS High Wycombe and Shiplake College.

Having qualified for the grand final the boys then faced the also unbeaten KCS Wimbledon. This was a fitting game given that Mr Hobbs set up the original block fixture in 1985. In a nerve-jangling final, the boys completed an impressive victory to beat the previous best third place and keep the Trophy here at Epsom.

Playing highlights included a fine century for Alfie Haxton, half-centuries for captain Nathan Farmer and Alex Frewer, and three wicket hauls for the ever-improving Arthur Garfield and Henry Hostcombe-Daniels.
