In an outstanding week for sport at Epsom that saw U14, U16 and U18 squash teams reach national finals, and our U14 Rugby team make the national semi-finals, our golfers were not to be outdone.
Kris Kim (Middle Fourth, Fa), Oscar Lent (Upper Fourth P) and Will Hewett (Lower Sixth H) turned in an exceptional performance against formidable opposition to reach the ISGA National Finals at Formby GC in April. This is the furthest Epsom has ever progressed in this competition, and is testament to the high-level of golf being played this year.
Epsom defeated Reed 2-1 at Tandridge GC to win the South East region. Kris went round in 4 under par and all three performed superbly in this scratch competition to take the College further in this competition than they have been before and with a strong chance of glory.

Kris Kim (Fa): WON 2 up
To put this into perspective, Kris was playing an 18-year-old who came runner up in the British Boys in the Summer. For a 14-year-old M4 pupil to defeat one of the country’s best young golfers was nothing short of remarkable.
Kris played incredibly steady golf; he did not miss a fairway, he did not miss a green and made his fair share of putts. Under the most intense pressure, and on a gusty day, Kris played this challenging course in 4 under par and made it look easy. Standing on the 17th tee all square, when it mattered most, Kris made par and his opponent made bogey. Down 18, Kris made par and his opponent made bogey. It was nerveless golf of the very highest standard.

Oscar Lent (P): WON 2 and 1
Similarly, Oscar was also up against it this afternoon. His opponent is also a very well-respected international golfer in Year 13. As with Kris’s performance, Oscar was not to be intimidated and, when it mattered most going down the stretch, Oscar played par golf.

Will Hewitt (H): Lost 3 and 2
Will’s opponent has been +3 and so this was always going to be a tough day. Will played some magnificent golf shots today but it was not quite good enough to win.
These fine young golfers have a bright future and on today’s performance Epsom College will be the team to beat at Formby.
