Anumber of Epsom College students have achieved outstanding results in this year’s British Physics Olympiad. The annual competition provides a series of competition papers to stretch and challenge the country’s most talented young physicists. In recent years, the competition has attracted entries from 20-30,000 students.
This year 2,300 students from 395 schools participated from the UK. Some students participated from schools overseas, including 2,100 students in China.
To achieve a Gold award, a student must be in the top 350 in the country. A Silver award would place them in the top 750 nationally.
Epsom’s impressive results are as follows:
- Isa Cheng – Gold
- Ray Wang – Silver
- Chun Ho Tsui – Bronze I
- Thomas Gibson – Bronze II
- Myles Eckes – Bronze II
- Pui Chak Lee – Bronze II
- Max Stodard – Bronze II
- Thomas Booth – Commendation
- Callum Scholes – Commendation
- Amy Scerri – Commendation
- Anthony Lee – Commendation
- Peter Lucas – Commendation
- Edward Northover – Commendation
Chris Bradford, Head of Physics, said: “The three-hour paper is fiendishly difficult. Given the level of the challenge, plus the extremely high level of competency of all who enter, it is even more impressive to have so many Epsom College pupils placing highly this year.”
