Drama Students Transported to the 1920s for The Great Gatsby

A-level Drama students were treated to The Great Gatsby, an immersive theatre production in London’s Mayfair. Here, Lower Sixth student Poppy Tilling reviews the event.

“We all departed from school dressed in our 1920s costumes, including Will Swan dressed in a neon orange suit; he garnered much attention throughout the afternoon! Others wore the classic pinstripe suits and the iconic flapper dresses.

From the moment we arrived at the venue we were transported into the world of Mr J Gatsby.

Upon entering the performance space, we were immediately approached by some of the cast members, and this is what helped make our experience so special: they guided us around the performance, an experience that some other audience members did not get the chance to enjoy!

Miss Johnson’s group definitely got their steps in as they were whizzed around the experience playing Jordan Baker’s ‘entourage’. Personally, I was following the love triangle between Tom, Daisy and Gatsby.

From the moment we entered, the cast made us feel part of the story.

We all learnt the Charleston, some of us were a bit timid at first, but by the end we were practically professionals!

I only felt that I had left the 1920s when sitting on the minibus home, driving away from this amazing experience.

Here are some comments from the rest of the group:

  • ” It brings a nervous excitement; you never know what’s coming next!”
  • “High energy, whole different experience, nothing like you’ve seen before!”
  • “We were part of the show!”
