The 1st team Netballers have had a week of excellent performances in the Seaford Tournament on Saturday, and then against Millfield in the Quarter-Finals of the Cup.
At Seaford the girls finished fourth out of 14 teams. They played six matches in the group stage, winning against Lancing, Churcher’s and Seaford, which put them into the Plate.
Here they beat Marlborough College 11-9 to take them through to the Plate final where they met Hurstpierpoint for the third time in a week.
The girls stepped up superbly, although a few close decisions went against them at crucial moments, and the girls were unlucky to lose by a single goal. Natascha Penwarden (Cr) and India Binnie (R) stood out for Epsom across the whole day, while captain Ebube Akojie (Wh) really caught the eye, selected as the overall player of the tournament by the coaches and umpires of all teams – a superb achievement.
On Thursday, in front of a packed crowd in the Sports Hall, the girls lost out 29-41 to a Millfield side that contained five Bath players and a Welsh international. The girls performed superbly to stay in the contest and challenge their illustrious opponents. Once again Ebube Akojie stood out but the girls can be proud of their effort against such a strong side.
There were wins for the 3rds, and 4ths against KCS, for the U16A and B teams against Portsmouth Grammar School, while 10 out of 14 matches were won in the Lower School triangular with PGS and Dunottar, and the matches against Dunottar that were lost were Epsom girls playing against teams two levels higher than them – a terrific effort.
Midweek, honours were shared in the U12 matches against Tormead, and three out of five won by the U15s against Lingfield.
