Harlequins took advantage of Epsom College’s grounds and facilities this week, as they prepared for their vital Champions Cup rematch against Ulster Rugby.
The players – featuring three former Epsom pupils, Kyle Sinckler, Archie White and Niall Saunders – arrived early Monday morning for a full day’s session, including a debrief on the weekend’s narrow 24-25 defeat at Ulster.
The squad undertook strength and conditioning work in the Epsom College Fitness Suite, a session in the College Swimming Pool, and then an intensive training session on the First Team Pitch with Epsom pupils looking on.
World Cup finalist Kyle Sinckler then presented Headmaster Jay Piggot with a signed Harlequins shirt, alongside Archie White and Niall Saunders – who played together in Epsom’s 1st XV before being called up to Harlequins.
Director of Rugby, Paul Burke, said: “It was a pleasure to host Harlequins here at Epsom College. We have strong links with the club and many of the faces are very familiar to our pupils and staff. Observing their training, and detailed planning, ahead of an important week for the team was invaluable for our staff and players. We wish them the best of luck for Friday and look forward to welcoming them back again.”
“Epsom College has a strong tradition as one of the UK’s foremost rugby schools. This year we reached the semi-finals of the prestigious Champions Trophy, having reached the final in 2018. The 1st XV signalled that they are one of the country’s strongest sides by coming third in the Daily Mail Trophy Merit Table. We are also the current holders of the prestigious Surrey Schools’ 7s.”
