The College played a key role in this week’s Epsom Mental Health and Well-being Festival, hosting a series of events and drop-in sessions.
On Monday, the week’s events launched with a visit from Shaun Attwood who spoke about lessons learnt from his own life experiences – the poignant lecture touched on poor decisions, bouncing back, showing resilience and helping others.
On Tuesday, Lower Sixth peer mentors gave assemblies in Lower School on smashing the stigma of mental health. This message was powerful as it was delivered by members of the College who the Lower School pupils look up to for guidance.
In PSD lessons, pupils debated the impact of screen time on teenagers’ well-being, as well as the positives of going online to signpost young people to suitable helpful advice. Two Upper Sixth students were selected to sit on a panel at the Digital Families Conference in London to share their views on mental health and wellbeing
On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons the College played host to members of the public wishing to reconnect with non-tech fun. We opened our grounds so visitors could play croquet, sketch the chapel and take photographs of nature.
Pupils were encouraged to wear a splash of yellow on World Mental Health Day as part of charity Young Minds’ wider campaign to show young people that they are not alone when it comes to their mental health.
