In the last week of August, the U15 and U13 Hockey teams travelled to York and Edinburgh for their pre-season tour, accompanied by four members of staff.
After an early departure from Kings Cross, the group arrived in York for three fixtures against York HC. With most of our girls having not played over the summer this was a good opportunity to blow out the cobwebs.
The tour then moved on to Edinburgh, with a chance for the touring party to get some much needed training under their belts. The first fixture was against Dollar Academy and all Epsom sides putting in impressive performances. The U13Bs won 4-0; U13As drew 0-0 in a tense match; and the U15s running out 5-1 winners and showing promising play.
The squad then took on George Watson’s: a schools hockey stronghold.
Epsom showed they can mix it with the best Scotland has to offer. The U13As ran out 2-1 winners; U13Bs lost narrowly at 0-2; and losing by just one goal in the U15 game, 0-1.
Thanks to Michael Johnson, Amelia Johnson and Sarah Cockayne for contributing to a successful tour and to the new Director of Hockey, Dave Beckett for his leadership.
