Forty eight Upper Fourth Design and Technology pupils set off for the Mini Plant where they were fortunate to spend some time in the Mini Museum before having a guided tour of the manufacturing plant.
Whilst seeing the highly automated production of the Mini, pupils were able to see the reality of just in time (JIT) manufacture, flexible manufacturing systems (FMS), mass production and a variety of other issues directly linked to their GCSE examination theory. Automatic Guided Vehicles illustrated just some of the high tech and innovate ways that Mini ensures smooth operation and high efficiency.
The tour lasted just over two hours and pupils took the opportunity to ask insightful questions at the end.
