Epsom got off to a flier in the first set, with good all round play promising a landslide before Putney rallied. 25-18 was nevertheless comfortable.
Maybe Epsom relaxed overly, but some more penetrative play by Putney and a lack of precision (digs a little close to the net, sets not quite as good as they could be) meant that the Epsom attack rarely functioned. A 21-25 loss brought about a decider.
The third set was a close affair until, at 13-13, some strong serving by Rachel Wong (Cr) backed up by a tight period of control by everyone else allowed Epsom to pull 6 points clear and keep it, to record a hard-fought victory.
