Churchill College, Cambridge, was the destination for 15 Fifth Form students on Monday 11 February, for insight into the admissions process, a tour with current Cambridge University students and a splendid lunch in the College dining hall.
We learnt about Churchill College’s history – the College for the sciences, modelled on MIT, which had greatly impressed Sir Winston Churchill when he visited Boston. Our students were encouraged to be successful in their exams, curious in their reading and, above all, passionate for their subjects.
An afternoon tour of Queens College in the company of several undergraduate students gave the pupils ample opportunity to ask those all-important questions such as how to choose a college, whether Cambridge is better than Oxford and would they really have to do their own laundry?
A quick visit to the famous fudge shop and my beloved Clare College rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable day and we were all left dreaming of those hallowed spires.
