Inspired by the BBC’s long-running hit show University Challenge, Head of School, Theo Alexis, proposed the idea to launch a new Epsom College version of the competition.
Teacher in charge, Mr Nick Russell, approved the idea following an impressive student-led pitch. He said: “The proposal came from Theo Alexis. He thought it would be a fun way of raising the profile of capable and knowledgeable students. He was right.”
In the Epsom edition pupils are selected from each of the 13 houses. The Heads of Houses have organised the teams from volunteers within the houses. In most cases the teams have been made up of students in the Upper Sixth, though some sparky Lower Sixth have also been selected.”
The competition has proved highly popular at the school, and is currently ongoing, with the grand final scheduled for Friday, 8 February at 6.30pm.
