On Saturday 1 December, Epsom’s girls faced local rivals St John’s and were unbeaten in 13 out of the 17 games.
The 1st XI has only lost one match all season and continued their impressive run with a 2-2 draw against a strong St John’s side. An outstanding performance and goal from Liv Wilde (R) and another goalkeeping masterclass from Isabel Evans (R) enabled the girls twice to come from a goal down to draw the match, with Lara Watson (M) slotting in the equaliser at the far post.
The 2nd XI made it eight wins out of nine this season with a scrappy but hard fought 1-0 win over St John’s. Izzy Mitchell (R) grabbed the all-important winner and Sophie Gee (R) was player of the match for the second game running.
After a draw against Bradfield, the 3rd XI returned to winning ways 6-0 to maintain their unbeaten season. Jess Haigh (R) played really well as did Clara Alexis (R) who scored four more goals to take her tally for the season to nine.
The 4th team also marches on unbeaten, winning 4-0 thanks to two goals from Issy Blackburn (R).
The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI sides have lost just two out of 37 matches this season – a superb achievement.
The U15As had to settle for another 2-2 draw, this time coming from 0-2 down after a sluggish start. Alex Nienow (R) put in another commanding performance to lead the fightback, with Ellie Jordan (M) and Paige Chamberlain (Cr) scoring the goals.
The U15Bs returned to winning ways thanks to Ariana Menassa’s (Rv) goal, while the Cs drew a tough game. Lois Lillie (Rv) and Kiara Padayachy (M) were players of the match in these games.
The U14As went down to a single goal defeat, late in the game, despite creating numerous chances against a strong St John’s side. Maddie Wearne (Cr) stood out in defence.
The B team lost 0-2 but produced their best hockey of the season against another strong team, with Emily Worby (M) having an outstanding game. The Cs also lost by a single goal – good performances against a strong St John’s year group.
In the Lower School, the U13A game ended in stalemate 0-0, with chances at both ends. Amber Roberts (GH) starred in goal alongside Yasi Fryer (Wa) in this match. There was also a draw for the B team with a goal from Grace Gardner (GH), while the Cs won 2-1, Maddie Pearce (Wa) once again to the fore.
The U12s recorded two wins and a draw from the four matches.
The A team drew 2-2 having led until five minutes from the end, Gina Carrington’s (Wa) two goals almost grabbing the win. Edie McLennan Fordyce (GH) also had an impressive game.
The Bs had the best result, 8-0, Seren Callaghan (Hu) scoring a hat-trick, while Olivia Diri (Hu) and Hannahli Foley-Outerial (Hu) scored twice and Juliette Cox took the player of the match award.
The D team also won, 2-0 with Chloe Hosier (Wa) scoring a goal and selected as stand out player, but the C team sadly lost despite Sophie Bustard’s (Wa) work rate and attacking threat.
The girls’ season ends with more strong opposition in the form of Ardingly next weekend.
