Epsom College is an independent Co-educational Boarding and Day School for approximately 1100 pupils aged 11 to 18 years.  The School is located approximately one mile from Epsom town, below Epsom Downs, in fine buildings set in a beautiful tree filled campus of some 72 acres.  Founded in 1855, the College has high academic standards and offers a very wide range of extra-curricular activities.  The College’s original foundation is The Royal Medical Foundation and links with the medical profession remain strong.

The College has a long history of excelling in sport. Pupils benefit from being coached by our highly experienced and skilled staff; many of whom played professionally, in their chosen field. Epsom College boasts wonderful grounds with indoor and external sporting facilities, including pitches, courts and a professional grade water-based AstroTurf hockey pitch.

The highly successful Multi-Sport Courses have been running for many years and endures a strong reputation locally. In response to a growing demand for activity and sports-based courses for children, during the holiday periods, the Commercial Enterprise team have enhanced further our activities programme. The offer now includes sports coaching in individual fields such as Cricket, Netball, Tennis and Football as well as Computing and Drama. We now see attendees from over 80 different schools taking part. We welcome boys and girls between the ages 8 and 14 to join the varied and fun programme of sports and activities.

Under the direction of the Sports Course Leader(s) the Sports Course Coach will help deliver the Hockey course programme to the children attending.  This will include coaching skills, techniques and tactics and assisting with the general supervision of children throughout the day. The Coach will offer advice and guidance to those attending and give feedback and evaluation to the Sports Course Leader(s) and attendees.

• Supporting the Sports Course Leader(s) with coaching relevant skills, tactics and techniques to the children.
• Ability to adapt and deliver coaching to different ability groups and individuals
• Lead small groups with coaching and drill sessions.
• Supervision of children at all times, ensuring an active, safe, fun and motivational session
• Ensure compliance of health and safety and Safeguarding procedures

Required Skills

• Recognised coaching qualification would be desirable
• Experience of coaching to high level in the sport course
• Experience of playing the sport to a high standard /county competition level
• Experience supervising of children
• Experience in teaching and working with children
• Understanding of health and safety within a sport environment.
• First Aid qualification is desirable
• Good organisational skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to work within a team.

Dates/Hours

The days and times of working will be confirmed once numbers of attending are finalised.

Course Dates: Monday 14th – Thursday 17th July 2025

Course Times: 10am – 4pm. Specific hours of working to be confirmed by Lead Coach and discussed with you and could be between 08.45am-5pm.

Salary: £178.00 per full day to include course preparation and end of course duties. Payment as and when worked on the course.

Holiday

In addition to the rate above, holiday entitlement is calculated on a monthly basis based on the hours you have worked and have submitted for payment. The calculation is 12.07% of the hourly rate for each hour worked and the amount of holiday pay paid to you for that month will be itemised on the payslip as “holiday pay”.

Pension

The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4%. Employees can opt out of the scheme.

The post will be offered subject to receipt of satisfactory written references, pre-placement medical assessment, proof of appropriate qualifications, a check of online search engines and websites of publicly available information that does not identify the candidate as potentially unsuitable to work within a school setting, a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and overseas police check if appropriate, as well as confirmation that the successful candidate is able to work in the UK. Prior to interview, an online search of internet search engines, websites and other publicly available and publicly accessible platforms to ascertain applicant’s suitability to work within a school environment will be undertaken on applicants that have been shortlisted. Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
