Shifting from one creative pursuit to another – this time in the STEM field – this week, we caught up with members of the Robotics Club to find out what they get up to every Thursday afternoon. We also had the chance to see some of their impressive creations in action. Annabel Eaves (Year 9) and Leo Ottosson (Year 7) share their experiences.
Q. What made you choose your activity and how long have you been doing it?
Annabel: I’ve always enjoyed my Computer Science lessons at school, and I love being creative and building things. I joined Robotics Club last year when I was in Year 8.
Leo: I’ve always loved coding, and robotics seemed like an exciting new challenge. I started at the beginning of Year 7, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Q. What do you do each week?
Annabel: We either follow instructions to build specific projects or design and code our own. Each week, we build on our creations to improve them.
Leo: We work on different custom-built robots, programming them to perform various tasks – like dancing or navigating around obstacles.
Q. What do you enjoy most about Robotics Club?
Annabel: I love the creative freedom it gives us. Designing our own projects and solving problems along the way is both fun and rewarding.
Leo: The best part is the sense of community – it feels like being in a close-knit group of friends. We even have our own club motto! Plus, we have lots of funny moments together.
Q. Why should someone choose Robotics Club?
Annabel: If you enjoy being imaginative, solving challenges, and building things, Robotics Club is perfect for you. It’s incredibly fun, and there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing your project come to life.
Leo: Even if you’ve never coded before, you can still learn and have a great time! Robotics is a fantastic way to develop problem-solving skills while having fun.
