The haul of awards at the Benenden MUN, is another feather in the cap of this MUN team who last week achieved a record success at RGS Guildford’s MUN Conference.
Representing a host of different countries – including Cuba, Ecuador, Greece and India, the event brought together budding diplomats from various schools to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues. These included environmental issues (such as eradicating the Great Pacific Garbage Patch), human rights issues (safeguarding the rights of the Uyghurs in China), and a trip down memory lane in the Historical Security Council where Dejan was representing none other than Cuba in a debate over the USSR’s supply of nuclear weapons to that island in the 1960s. While all of the students debated, negotiated, and collaborated well, some were awarded particular recognition. The following students excelled, showcasing not only their knowledge of global affairs but also their persuasive public speaking, strategic negotiation, and teamwork skills.

This MUN conference not only rewarded individual excellence but also provided a platform for all participants to develop crucial skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, and cultural awareness. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to step into the shoes of world leaders and experience the challenges of international diplomacy. Their achievements remind us that the next generation is ready to tackle the world’s most pressing problems with intellect and empathy.
